Key Personnel

David Ellington, President:  David Ellington is a graduate of Western Carolina University with a B.A. in Business Law.  He has over 25 years in the construction industry where he worked for a large general contractor as an Estimator and Project Manager and later with The Ellington Companies in Executive Management.  His key responsibilities include all phases of company operations, but concentrates in the site development arena with oversight of the Directors of Paving, Utilities, Grading, and Estimating & Project Management.  He is also Vice President of FMD, Incorporated and manages its commercial, residential and industrial projects.

“Excellent customer service is our top priority” David says.  “We listen to the customer and apply our tools to meet their unique needs.”  David is an active member of Zebulon Baptist Church, Sigma Chi Alumni Association and the Sandy Creek Fishing and Conservation Association.

Matthew Ellington, Vice President:  Matt is a graduate of NC State University with dual B.A. degrees in Economics and Business Management.  He has over 25 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include all phases of company operations, but concentrates in the utility, rock, fleet maintenance phases of the company.  He is also Vice President of FMD, Incorporated and manages its commercial, residential and industrial projects.

Matt’s philosophy centers on “do it right the first time - every time.”  Matt is an active member of Zebulon Baptist Church, Ducks Unlimited, Young Entrepreneurs Organization, and is an Alpha Kappa Psi alumnus.

Fred Ellington, Administration:  Fred Ellington is a Mechanical Engineer with BS and MS degrees from NC State University.  He has over 40 years of engineering and executive management, including 10 years in heavy construction. His background is in the various utility fields including electric power distribution and water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer contracting.  His key responsibilities include Executive Management, Administration, Operations and Maintenance to ensure an excellent company compliance program in key areas of Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory matters; and to provide networking and public relations with outside industry associations and groups.  He is also President of FMD, Incorporated and manages the commercial buildings.

Fred is a retired US Army Captain in the Medical Service Corps where he was Commanding Officer of a Combat Support Hospital.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Utility Contractors Association; is listed in “Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals”, and is also a retired Firefighter, and Rescue Squad Officer and an active member of Zebulon Baptist Church.

Chris Gupton, Director of Estimating and Project Management:  Chris is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Construction Management.  He has over 12 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include direction of the project managers for site development projects including estimating, coordination with the owners, project engineers and surveyors, supervision of the project foremen and subcontractors, and oversight of all project invoicing.

Chris is an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and the Sandy Creek Fishing and Conservation Association

Danny Blackburn, Director of Asphalt Operations
:  Danny has over 36 years in commercial and residential construction and site development.  Included in this is over 30 years as owner of B & B Paving which specialized in municipal work for Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Morrisville, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, and most of the other towns in the Triangle region.  Additional experience in Airport Runway Reconstruction, Complete Subdivision Construction including Road Widening, Parking Lot Construction, Shopping Center Construction, Street Construction (New and Reconstructions), Apartment Complex Construction and Snow Removal.  His key responsibilities include oversight of all aspects of paving operations including fine grading, curb & gutter and overlays.

Danny is an active member of the North Carolina Cattleman's Association and the North Carolina Wild Turkey Association

David Smith, Director of Utility Construction:  David has over 23 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include oversight of all water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer projects, coordination with the owners, project engineers and surveyors and supervision of the project foremen and subcontractors.


Michael Ellington, Director of Rock Services
:  Michael has over 13 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include oversight of all rock drilling, blasting, hammering and ripping projects and supervision of the drilling and blasting subcontractors.  He also performs subsurface evaluations for qualifying and quantifying rock depths.

Greg Shumacker, Director of Maintenance:  His key responsibilities include the management of all preventative maintenance and repairs of utility, grading and paving equipment as well as all highway vehicles.  He also supervises the repair facilities in our Wake Forest and Raleigh locations and coordinates our fleet of trucks for field service repairs.

Christy Cox, Director-Controller:  Christy is a graduate of Campbell University with a B.S. in Accounting and is currently pursuing her M.B.A. – Finance at NC State University with an expected graduation in May 2009.  She has over 5 years in accounting.  Her key responsibilities include supervision of the Accounting Department and Human Resources for The Ellington Companies and also works closely with the CFO on financial operations such as planning, bonding and insurance.

Mitch Bunn, Project Manager:  Mitch is a graduate of East Carolina University with a degree in Construction Management.  He has over 10 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include management of site development projects including estimating, coordination with the owners, project engineers and surveyors, supervision of the project foremen and subcontractors and invoicing.

Mitch is an active member of the Duke Memorial Baptist Church and Sandy Creek Fishing and Conservation Association.

Roger Edmundson, Project Estimator
:  Roger has over 4 years in the construction industry.  His key responsibilities include estimating for all site development projects with The Ellington Companies.
