On May 18, 2007 Ellington Contractors granted a wish for Nicholas, a 6-year old boy who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Nicholas had a dream to operate a Caterpillar heavy construction machine.

With the help from Gregory Poole of the Caterpillar Dealer and Jerry Hart of Olde Time Barbeque, Nicholas climbed into the cab of a specially quipped Caterpillar Rock Drill with Michael Ellington. Nicholas was able to operate the controls from the cab operations deck, and examine the work the machine performs.

“It was our pleasure to give Nicholas the ride of his life on the Caterpillar,” said Michael Ellington. “Nicholas did a great job on the Rock Drill, and he was able to get a full understanding of how one of our huge machines works.”

Nicholas was diagnosed with the brain tumor several years ago. Since then he has undergone four surgeries. Currently, Nicholas is doing well and there are no signs of reoccurrence. “Nicholas has had a challenging start to his life but he is a fighter. He has always dreamed of jumping in a Caterpillar machine, and we were very grateful to give him this exciting opportunity,” said Nicholas’ dad. “The smile on his face was priceless!”
